ONE IDEAL JOB

What is an ideal job for you? Is it the high paid job or the job with highest learning and growth?

Last November 2010, I applied as management trainee or a team member at Classic Savory Restaurant. It was my first choice to work as management trainee because I have the faith on my capabilities of handling things. During that time my application at Marco Polo Davao as a Banquet waiter was still a limbo.

During my application I know I satisfied the interviewer though they have not confirmed it yet I know it was a YES.

Finally they called me today telling me that I just got the job and asking me to quit from my present job. The option was a two months training in Manila with free air fare and accommodation in top of that was the 400+++ salary per day.

All I need to do was resign and work for them. I can admit that I was really interested in working with a rank. I know I have the skills and competent but more than any other offer – I can’t leave my present job.

In my job now I get to carry chairs and table, serve orders and other request, and set-up function rooms for the different events. For me this is an ideal job because even if I work without a rank I know that everyday I am learning what it needs to be on the rank. Little by little while I’m on this rope I keep on growing.

I do not see myself being shortchanged with lesser salary. The opportunity of personal and professional growth I have now is enough for my to say I’m happy with my first job. All the overtime duties are paid well with fun and excitement. After my 150 days legendary journey here, I will leave Marco Polo with great pride that I work during my working hours.

Career Choices

The Shift
(SELF-MADE MILLIONAIRES ARE NOT BORN, WE ARE MADE.)

Landing a job – ideal or not, we have to undergo many considerations about which company shall we be joining and what can we do to join them. Before my college graduation I have been planning about my career.I read a lot of books about management, business and career development.

I know that the competition in the real world is tougher than going to school and impressing a teacher to get a good grade. It is a fact that right after the last day of being a student is a life of impressing the employers to hire you or the customers to buy from you. It is my fear to be counted as one of the unemployed. From my readings I adopted and developed ways of getting hired.

GETTING HIRED

In every job interview their is always a test where an applicant is assessed on his/her integrity, intelligence and maturity. This is called “Acid Test.” You will be continuously asked and observed how you possess the qualities they are looking and how can you be a winning member of the organization.

INTEGRITY – this is tested on how you keep your words, tell the truth and take responsibilities over certain circumstances.

INTELLIGENCE – this involves examining how strong is your dose of intellectual curiosity, knowledge and your strength in leading other smart people.

MATURITY - Ability to withstand heat, handle stress and setbacks while enjoys success with joy and humility.

THE 4E AND 1P FRAMEWORK

E1. POSITIVE ENERGY - people who are extrovert, optimistic and love life.

E2. ABILITY TO ENERGIZE OTHER - People who revved up others, inspire the team to take the impossible.

E3. EDGE, the courage to make though yes or no decisions – decisively and with focused.

E4. EXECUTE, the ability to get the job done.

P1. PASSION, heartfelt, deep and authentic excitement to work.

LOVE TO LEARN WHAT LEADERS DO AND YOU’LL SOMEDAY LEAD.

* Upgrade oneself and others.
* Get into everyone’s skin.
*Establish trust.
*Courageous.
*Probe and has curiosity.
*Set example and inspire
*Celebrate.

For now, you are halfway on landing your ideal job. You should be able to answer the common interview questions below with full confidence. Usually there are 3 stages of interview – the interview from the HR, the outlet head and finally the department head. These people wear different smiles where you should take caution and ensure that every question thrown is responded well.

Sample questions:

TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF?

This is a question that will allow you to sell yourself. Can you sell yourself by merely answering and telling your name and age?

Of course not, you have to tell the interviewer something – Something that is salable and likable about you.

Examples: I am smart. I may not be genius but I devote my self to continuous learning by loving what I do.

I am a person with strong determination to win. I know that before I can win I need to fail and learn.

ANYTHING interesting about you can be a good answer. All you need to remember is you need not to be too arrogant. Be precise and go direct to the point.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO WORK WITH US?

Tell the employer what you can give them while you are getting from them through personal growth.

I want to work in your company for three reasons, first the people, I know that you have the best associates I can work well and grow with while breathing the value you have in providing your product to consumers.

ALWAYS remember, you need to give them the impression that you are productive and you want to utilize that in your work if you get the chance working with them.

MY FIRST JOB INTERVIEW

September 22, 2010
Establishment: Marco Polo Hotel
Position: Waiter

QUESTIONS ASKED: TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF?

I wanted to be called Klien because I love to portray smart personality. A personality that has the energy to energize others – the people I am working with and the people I am working for.

WHY DO YOU CHOOSE US?

I choose your company because I know that you have the best people who can help me learn the ways of doing things in this industry.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR PREVIOUS TRAINING?

I learned to work well with people and enjoy what I do.

Note from the F&B manager: He does not care how intelligent or experienced the interviewee is. He need someone who can be like a sponge, who can absorb things easily. A person who loves personal growth.

I received the job offer at the same day. I processed and complied all the requirements.

MY SECOND JOB INTERVIEW

October 6, 2010
Establishment: Sutherland Global Services
Position: Call Center Agent

I was hired and underwent language training for two weeks. I passed the certification but I decided to give up the job. It is a passion for me to work in a contact center but I had to quit for my own good. I can’t give up a good night sleep for my career in the call center.

I was asked before during the interview, ” CAN YOU TELL US WHY DO YOU WANT TO WORK IN THE CALL CENTER?”

I wanted to work in the call center because I want to utilize and improve my communication skills. I consider communication as art. Such combination of art and passion can be a fulfilling career.

Everything I learned from that training has helped me in my most recent job. I learned to deal with customers demands and complaints properly. But the most important thing I experienced and celebrated in my training in Sutherland is FRIENDSHIP. My eyes and ears were opened that life can really be extremely exciting when you accept everything, everyone around you and wear a genuine smile. Pretend no more.

SELF RESPONSIBILITY

A huge number of people fail because they are too dependent to others. You are a master of your own ship, if something is going wrong then change it. you are in charge of your own life.

Refuse to blame others with your failures. Be a boss of you own personal organization. When you take control of your life’s responsibilities, you see your self managing your life. You take all the risk. You have the mentality of being independent and result oriented.

Since you know you are responsible for your life, you have the greater initiative to try different adventures. You learn to go out of the box. You value everything and respect everyone- it’s your responsibility. Accept all the responsibilities of your life. The world does not care who you were- it cares of who you are now and will be in the future. Never complain, you take the action because you create your life.

BELIEVING TO ACHIEVE

A man is what he thinks most of the time. So when we believe we have achieve what we want we are actually starting to realize it. Most of the people fail to achieve what they want in life because from the very beginning they are thinking of failures. They fear that they might not achieve what they want. The moment you think of losing the game you actually start to lose.

Start with a very affirmative start. Visualize and imagine yourself getting all the things in life. You need to stimulate your mind then you are stimulating your self esteem and confidence that you will reach the unreachable. Learn to dream big dreams because the bigger your dreams are the greater you will be realizing things.

Majority of the people are just going around the circle of success but they never get into its core because they don’t have the clear picture of themselves successful.

You are what you think you are. Always believe in yourself. trust your self that everything you dream is realistic. While dreaming or aiming to achieve something learn to begin with a positive start. Instead of saying “I am nothing”, “I can’t really make it”, “What if I fail?”, say—-I will make it, it’s easy. It will follow. As long as you have trust in your capabilities you will find ways on your own. You will achieve thing without to much doubts.

BLUEPRINTING

“A person with a clear purpose will make progress even in the roughest road. A person with no purpose will make no progress even in the smoothest road.”-Thomas Carlyle

How can you start without knowing where to go. Life is a journey, there are people who seemed to be very successful but they never had real happiness in their lives. You cannot expect yourself to be happy if you do not really know what make you happy.

In this journey you have to create a location map, a blueprint. Blueprinting is about designing your goal, your direction and system while taking life’s journey.

You have to identify your wants versus your needs. What are your priorities? Create a system for you to properly and effectively run your life. You may get lost but where ever you go you know you have sets of plans if the first priority does not work then try the other one. Know your desires like knowing yourself. Decide which aspect of your life can help you then boost that aspect. If you are more gracious dancing than singing then go for it. go for what your heart feels. Sometimes we get destructed to things around us. This is one of the aspects that are not helping us, eliminate them.

Every action taken has reaction. Set targets on when, where and how should you achieve them. Remember everything happens in proper time and place. Start now because wasted time is wasted success. Do it now it might be your time.
